Dave Froelich

Baseball
Induction Year: 2017
Inducted on February 18, 2017
Baseball 1975-1977

In his freshman year, Dave had a pitching record of 7-2 for an IHCC team that won more games than any previous baseball squad in school and Iowa college history and came within one game of qualifying for the JUCO World Series.  Following that campaign he was named to the all-region and all-district teams and earned third-team All-American honors.  He fashioned a 1.92 ERA and hurled a perfect game for one of his seven complete game wins.  The next year, as a sophomore, Dave, a Mandan, N.D. product, was 4-0 for the Falcons before a broken finger cut short his season.  The right-hander then put together a 21-3 record in two seasons at the University of New Orleans and established the Sun Belt Conference record for career shutouts with seven.  He was named the team and conference pitcher of the year twice and still holds the school record for career winning percentage.  Dave's pro career started after he was drafted, for the third time, by the San Diego Padres in 1979, but ended the following year as a result of an elbow injury and subsequent surgery.
