Tony was a two–year starter in football and started one year in basketball for Indian Hills on the Centerville Campus. He was a first–team All–American running back as a sophomore when he led the NJCAA in rushing yards. That year he averaged 134.2 yards per game and scored 17 touchdowns. As a freshman on the IHCC basketball team, Tony averaged nearly 17 points per game. He continued his football career at the University of Missouri where he earned All–Big 8 Conference honors and was named team captain during his senior season. He was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the second round of the 1976 NFL draft and played 12 years in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants. Tony helped lead the Giants to a win in Super Bowl XXI and retired in 1987 having caught more passes than any other running back in NFL history.
